MT Rijanni, Lombok Part 2

Salam to all again

We are now in the month of Rejab, Hijri calendar. Muslims around the world are preparing themselves for the blessed month of Ramadhan. Increase our iman and amal, Insyaallah.

AllahuAkhbar...Allah is the greatest...My journey to the base of Mt. Rijanni was a moment of reflecting the One's power and the One's creations. Name it, from the
undulating landscapes, the volcanic crater, the lake and the fantastic views from the mountain top and the vegetation cover were the proofs of Allah's greatness...

The first part of the journey was long and required my mental strength...since I was the weakest in the group. The first 45 minutes I experienced a 'kind of high latitude sickness'. My breakfast energy went astray...I vomited and was forced to rest for more than 1 hour. I was about to go back to the homestay at Sembalun with the guide, suddenly a surge of energy came back(after drinking about 750ml of 100 plus)..So I decided to continue the climbing..well I took 10 hours and 20 minutes to arrive at the camping ground..the rest only took 8 plus hours..Hakim and Andre (the guide) had to bare with my slow phase and frequent stops...

All in about 7 mountains within Mt. Rijanni. The locals called them "7 Bukit penyesalan"..because it looked a never ending climbing...

MT Rijanni, Lombok

Salam to all..

I started the journey reluctantly at first, because I suffered a week of heavy flu. A week before that we entertained the children by bringing them to Cherating for the weekend.

Anyhow...we left LCCT at 8.30p.m on 11th (Friday) of June 2010. Originally there were 13 members in the group, 5 withdrew due to job and family commitment. Only 8 of us continued the trip. It was planned last year. Like me, I just prayed that the trip did not clash with my oral examination.

The schedule of our trip ;
1.11th June left LCCT for Bali..Stayed over night. 9.00 a.m left for Matarram (City of Lombok) by Merpati Air. Only took 15 minutes. Then proceeded to land journey in a van to the Sembalu National Park. It took around 4 hours to arrive there. Awesome scenery with fresh veges and fruits. The strawberries were cheap and sweet. A packet of strawberries cost only RM1.90...so I ate 4 packets..
2. All the pictures showed the first part of the journey..

Enjoy the view...

My Kitchen's Tales

Salam to all.

My cullinary skills

Today I want to share my culinary skills. Not much and nothing to be classified as a grandeur cooking. In fact, it is more a reflection of yesteryears' food of delight. Sometimes in your life you just like to be part of the past. Like me, sometimes I crave food like 'ibu rebus empuk dengan sambal tumis atau ibu rebus dengan kelapa parut dan ikan kering' (tapioca with sambal cili or desicated coconut or with salted fish). The other carving is the Malaysian pancake (lempeng)with sambal.

Ubi Rebus
I tried the delicacies of 'ubi rebus' with coconut in Shah Alam, but nothing tasted as in Muar. The ubi is not 'empuk' enough. I guess the most tender tapiocas go to monosodium industry which is more lucrative. May be some tapiocas also go to the IKS for 'kerepek' and chips...What's left are no longer the best for the taste buds of 'kampung' people like me.

Back home in Muar or to be specific in Bukit Serampang, Uda used to say the best is 'ubi' 6 months after plantation. Ye, that's very true when I tasted 'ubi rebus'
which Uda planted at the family garden..yummy eating on its own, no additional entree.

Lempeng the Malaysian Pancake
Another common food was 'lempeng sambal'. During the rainy season when I was small, we used to gather at the veranda of our home especially so after Asar. Lazing ourselves and chit-chat while indulging ourselves with what else if not the 'lempeng sambal' and coffee 'O' . What a perfect condition and timing to rest and spend time with the family. The rainy season was not the good time to tend for the garden and rubber trees. So most families would rest at their open veranda.

Back to today's living. Then last week, my craving came about. The time was 10.00 o'clock at night. " Fan can you to the shop and buy a can of sardines" I asked Nurhanifan. "For what Mama?". " I want to make lempeng with sardines " I replied.
As soon as Nurhanifan left ( not much questions asked because he just got his license..so driving is a kind of therapy for him). I quickly mixed all the ingredients for the batter with some secret recipe from AFC (Asian Food Channel). Then scooping the batter for a thin layer of 'lempeng' on the non-stick pan.

AFC secret Recipe

As soon as he arrived home with the additional entree, I heated up a pan and fried the onions and fresh chillies. Then I put the sardine sauce and chillie sauce to spice up the sardines. ha.. ready..not long to cook. Those who know me, surely equalize me with simple food and not willing to slog myself in the kitchen for hours.

When ready, I offered the food to all members of my household including my hubby. "AHA(hubby), please try my 'lempeng' with AFC secret recipe.. The batter is soft and delicious to eat with sardines" I urged him to try. "What? you watch AFC and all those cooking but you only make 'lempeng'" " Ha! Ha! Ha!" He had a good laugh at me.
"Well you know me..plus they used all ingredients which are not available easily" I defended myself.

So my 'lempeng' and the secret recipe were the jokes for that night. Alhamdulillah I fulfilled my craving and the children finished off everything.. Nothing left. What is more important, I put my culinary skills at work though only for 'lempeng sardines'

What A Tragic End !

SALAM.....

I cried when I read the story of Aminurrashid, a 15 year old boy, a form three student at Sekolah Menengah Sek 9. My deepest smpathy and condolence go to the family. What more I know the place where he was chased and shot. At the moment I can't imagine what happened to the deceased mother. Tears of blood will not bring him back. Justice should be sought otherwise injustice prevails....

A motherly instinct makes me thinking about Amru who is almost at the same age as the deceased. Their life is so 'green' and 'pure' but full of excitement...Suddenly..the excitement has been cut off...

Al-Fatihah.

Lifestyle

Salam to all...

Just read this article...em..em..the story about the rich and famous but living below their means..What more most of them donate or allocate millions of dollars to charity and humanity work..

What a noble cause...follow the footstep anyone???

Okay just read...

Five Billionaires Who Live Below Their Means
by Katie Adams
Thursday, April 1, 2010
provided by

At least once in your life - maybe even once a week or once a day for that matter - you have fantasized about coming into a lot of money. What would you do if you were worth millions or even billions? Believe it or not there are millionaires and billionaires among us who masquerade as relatively normal, run-of-the-mill people. Take a peek at some of the most frugal wealthy people in the world.

Warren Buffett

Millions of people read Buffett's books and follow his firm, Berkshire Hathaway's, every move. But the real secret to Buffett's personal fortune may be his penchant for frugality. Buffett, who is worth an estimated $47 billion, eschews opulent homes and luxury items. He and his wife still live in their modest home in Omaha, Nebraska which they purchased for just $31,500 more than 50 years ago.
Although he's dined in the best restaurants around the globe, given the choice he would opt for a good burger and fries accompanied by a cold cherry Coke. When asked why he doesn't own a yacht he responded "Most toys are just a pain in the neck." (Find out how he went from selling soft drinks to buying up companies and making billions of dollars.

Carlos Slim

While most of the world is very familiar with Bill Gates, the name Carlos Slim rarely rings a bell. But it's a name worth knowing. Slim, who is a native of Mexico, was just named the world's richest billionaire – that's right, richer than the uber-famous Microsoft founder. Slim is worth more than $53 billion and while he could afford the world's most extravagant luxuries he rarely indulges. He, like Buffett, doesn't own a yacht or plane and he has lived in the same home for over 40 years.

Ingvar Kamprad

The founder of the Swedish furniture phenomenon Ikea struck success with affordable, assemble-it-yourself furniture. For Kamprad, figuring out how to save money isn't just for his customers, it's a high personal value. He's been quoted as saying "Ikea people do not drive flashy cars or stay at luxury hotels." That goes for the founder as well. He flies coach for business and when he needs to get around town locally he either takes the bus or will head out in his 15-year-old Volvo 240 GL.

Chuck Feeney

Growing up in the wake of The Depression as an Irish-American probably has something to do with Feeney's frugality. With a personal motto of "I set out to work hard, not get rich," the co-founder of Duty Free Shoppers has quietly become a billionaire but even more secretively given almost all of it away through his foundation, Atlantic Philanthropies. In addition to giving more than $600 million to his alma mater Cornell University, he has given billions to schools, research departments and hospitals.

Loath to spend if he doesn't have to, Feeney beats both Buffett and Kamprad in the donation category, giving out less grants than only Ford and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations. A frequent user of public transportation, Mr. Feeney flies economy class, buys clothes from retail stores, and does not waste money on an extensive shoes closet, stating "you can only wear one pair of shoes at a time". He raised his children in the same way; making them work the same normal summer jobs as most teens.

Frederik Meijer

If you live in the Midwest chances are good that you shop at Meijer's chain of grocery stores. Meijer is worth more than $5 billion and nearly half of that was amassed when everyone else was watching their net worth drop in 2009. Like Buffett he buys reasonably-priced cars and drives them until they die, and like Kamprad he chooses affordable motels when on travel for work. Also, like Chuck Feeney, rather than carelessly spending his wealth Mr. Meijer is focused on the good that it can provide to the community.

The Bottom Line

The dirty little secret of some of the world's wealthiest people is that they rarely act like it. Instead of over-the-top spending, they're busy figuring out how to save and invest to have that much more in the future. It's a habit you might want to consider in order to build up your own little storehouse of cash.

Ingatkan dah hantar tesis santai lah sikit..heh heh..Mana ada istilah santai sebenarnya, bak kata Adi Adi "perfect comfort and rest only in heaven"...

Le nie Mamanya pulun nak siapkan bahan syarahan...Dulu bahan syarahan dalam bentuk hard copy..le tu LCD tak banyak ...berebut jadi tuan badan malas nak berebut pakailah transparencies.
Sekarang nie melampau pulak pensyarah nie... macam tak update nota je padahal LCD melambak..takkan nak pakai yang lama..so banyak le kerja transfer dan edit mengedit..Eh eh sebahagian daripada upah kerja kan...tak leh nak rungut-rungut. Siang-siang sibuk dengan kelas dan konsultasi dengan pelajar2. Kalau masa "presentation of project"...empat lima jam kat kelas..komen mengkomen ..pembaikan kerja pelajar..sebab ia adalah real life projek....Lepas crit session tu ..pastinya tuan badan otaknya panas..dan sangat letih..

What a scary piece of news !

Salam to all..

What happenned to our society?. A very tragic incident. Damn to the criminals...
Let's read....

Burglars gang-rape housewife
By NELSON BENJAMIN

nelson@thestar.com.my

JOHOR BARU: Burglars broke into a house in Kangkar Pulai here early Sunday and gang-raped a housewife after tying up her family.

The incident occurred at about 6am when the husband, who woke up to perform his prayers, discovered at least eight men inside his double-storey house.

The intruders, who had entered through an unlocked window at the back of the house, grabbed some knives from the kitchen and threatened the husband before waking up his wife and baby.

While the husband, in his 20s, was being bound, at least six of the robbers took the wife upstairs .

The woman, who is also in her 20s and studying at a local university, pleaded to them to release her. But they started beating her and threatened to kill. The robbers took turns to rape her.

The husband, who tried to put up a fight, was beaten up.

The robbers fled with some cash and electrical items while the husband rushed his wife to the hospital where a police report was lodged.

Police sources confirmed the incident adding that three men have been detained to assist in investigations.

In an unrelated case, a security guard molested a tuition teacher in her 20s at Taman Impian Emas in Skudai several days ago.

The guard approached the teacher while she was walking alone at about 7.45pm and threatened to harm her if she did not follow him.

It is learnt that the suspect led the teacher to an isolated area and tried to rape her but could not as she was menstruating.

He fled the scene after molesting the woman.

Police are looking for the guard who is believed to be working at a residential area in the neighbourhood.

Salam to all

"Don't be sad ye". "Lah Tah Zan ye". That was the conclusion made by my friend and me at the end of our conversion around 5 o'clock this evening. We discussed about the tribulation we faced while making our journeys on the path we chose.

After three weeks back to my original job, I broke my new year resolution. I argued again with my male counterpart. Well two different issues. I just could not pretend to be a good girl when someone provoked with "hey you are against Islamic teaching..women are not supposed to be outside...and what more driving the car by yourself".

My argument; " show me the related verses of Al-Quran, Hadith and so on ..only then I believe you..Don't talk if your argument is based on hearsay. Sorry I can't accept it"..Blah blah he continued giving the counter argument.

In another situation, I was given a task which I think unfair to me.. Again, I had to use my verbal argument to get my point across. What I really want to do is; to focus on my teaching job. Malas dah nak layan benda-benda tegang leher nie..I guess this is the asam pedas kehidupan.

Life goes on guys..

2010

Salam to all..

I am back to my original job. My study leave for four years expired 0n 31/12/09. It is not easy to synchronize my timetable with scheduled meetings, classes, supervision and discussion.

Yesterday I missed Abrar's first day at school. I could not be able to be everywhere at the same time. However I managed to spent time with him during the school 4 hour orientation day on Saturday. Yesterday I only managed to see him off to school at the school's bus door step. I had to rely on Sulaim, his standard five brother for the supervision. Time flies, I still remember the day Abrar was born. I had to endure a very painful post-casearan effect. An emergency operation was performed because his umbilical cord entangled around the neck..

I was given a new subject code therefore extra time will be spent to prepare lecture materials..and it is not my favourite field..Anyway life goes on...
