Ranupani - Ranu Kombolo

Mount Semeru or Mahameru from far

Salam again

The distance from Ranupani to Ranu Kombolo is about 9.5 km. We started the journey around 8.30 a.m after breakfast with rice, fried chicken, pecal and without fail tauhu and tempe..Oh ye, we recited doas and seek Allah's blessings before entering the hilly highland jungle. The track from Ranupani resort to post 1 and post 2 was clear with asphalts in place. Semeru area was closed for more than two months due to its dormant state but normally active with small eruptions once in about 15 minute interval time. The authority closed the area for fear that it would erupt suddenly. It was opened about two weeks before we arrived. Due to that the tract was camouflaged by highland bushes..as for me that was the cause of my extra caution and the result I was left behind. Never mind because safety was more important. The track was sometimes very close to the mountain's ridge and valley. Hiking from post 2 to post 3 was really tiring since it was a long distance with ups and downs..."santai je ye..ibu nak rehat"..the normal statement I gave to the guides when I saw a post because surely I would take 10-15 minutes break and sometimes tried to slot a nap..

Mahameru from post 3..

Approaching Ranu Kombolo..Looks very near but still almost 2 km to reach there...by pass post 4..we did not stop since it was going downhill..

Just arrived around 1 0'clock local time, they snapped the picture with a word of encouragement "tak pe perlahan sampai juga".
I just kept quiet knowing that some of them already took a nap....showing how fast and strong they were....
The breeze near the lake was really refreshing..I felt like camping here..as the locals said "buka tender je ye bu"

Solat time, coffee break and lunch..then off again to Mount Kalimati, the base of Semeru..well about 5 km to go before night time approaching...With the waning energy and looking up a steep hill infront of me ....I talked to myself " Puziah boleh ke nie"...That's what many people told me ....endurance of mental strength not only physical per se..I just continued walking...

Wassallam
Next post...Mt Kalimati and Semeru...

Malang-Probolinggo-Ranupani

Salam again

In Malang we stopped for lunch at Assalamualikum restaurant right infront of University of Islam Muhammadiah..located beautifully in a valley..no pictures as the camera was not with me..
Right after that we were transported by a four wheel.. Then stopped at a 'pondok gunung shop'..Luckily they did not have credit card facilities..otherwise depa borong sakan..branded stuff selling at heavily discounted price. Well the shop owned by Boni..one of the guides cum entreprenur. After that off the road again ..to Probolinggo and to Ranupani. Ranupani is only accessible by four wheels. The area is 2500metres above sea level.. Highland with agricultural activities, occupied mainly by local Tangere, descendants of a tribe from Bali escaped from Majapahit administrators..long time ago. The majority of them are still practicing Balinese Hinduism, Alhamdullillah they are also Muslim Tangere..The cold wind started to blow us slowly. We landed Juanda International Airport 12.00 o'clock..arrived Ranupani around 9.00p.m..Indeed a long journey for the day...Resting for the night before ascending to Ranu Kombolo (Lake of Kombolo) the next day...

The pictures were captured around Ranupani areas...

Group photo before departing to Ranu Kombolo- half way to the base of Mount Semeru(the destination). The most senior in the group is Hj Ali the guy in a red wind breaker. Guest what he is 68 years old...any contender?

The journey to Ranu(lake) Kombolo took more than 4 hours..since I was always resting at every post(wakaf)..The rest of the group did not take much break so they arrived almost 1 hour ahead of me..

To be continued

The East Java off the road adventure

Assalamualikum wbrt to all..

As mentioned in the previous posting, I would like to share the moments of ardous, rustic, exotic and colourful journey off the road adventure in East Java recently (14-18th June 2009) with my blogsphere's friends. I always remind myself that the journey is to truly experience the nature world of Allah's creations. These have been mentioned in Surah Ali-Imran : verse 190, In the creation of the sky and earth, and the existence of day and night, there are evidences for those who are observant; and in the As-Syams : verses 1-10, those who are always purifying themselves are indeed the receivers of good benefit..Wallahua'lam

I have to divide the journey into three or four parts since there are many unforgettable views that I want to share with you all...
The first part will be the journey from the Juanda airport, Surabaya to Malang and Probolinggo..
It was not a 'rombongan makcik Kiah membeli belah' infact not a single kain batik or pelekat I could hold of..none at all.. all about experiencing the bountiful nature of Allah. Alhamdullillah.

Masjid Cheng Ho or Masjid Cina as called by the locals ..in Indonesia not in Malaysia or Malacca..ehem good portray of the universality of Islam..The first stop ..for solat

Irfan our guide waited at the airport

Second part...

Family outings

Salam to all

We did many outings together as a family. The pictures will paint these moments together....

These photos were snapped during the May-June 09 school holidays. Locations : Sg.Panching, Kuantan; Pulau Kapas, Terengganu; and Sg.Sekayu, Terengganu.

Something to cherish....travelling, swimming, snorkelling, camping, cooking and eating meals ...together as a family before the children grow up and we grow old..and I am not sure we would be able to do all that together again...
